Appropriation – Images in the Wild

Our brief was ‘Appropriation’. I took this image (below) as I feel that it captures Lincoln beautifully showing both the contrast to the man-made beauty with the image of the cathedral, combined with the natural beauty Lincoln possesses with the overlaid image of the trees. It summarises the history that is at the heart of Lincoln and creates a sense of community and togetherness by overlaying the two images.

The second half of our task was to identify someone else’s image that captured our eye. Personally, my eyes were drawn to this image(captioned ‘part 2’); I feel as though this also captures time passing in a still shot as you can see the layers and the re-painting over shop signs that have come before, thus incorporating the theme of history gathered from the previous image. This represents that everything has a story of its own to tell and that this can be found in the simplest and most unsuspecting places.
